What's happening?

Greatwater Opportunity Capital plans a $27 million redevelopment of the former Cadillac Assembly Plant in the TechTown area south of New Center, with about 90 apartments as well as surface parking. Twenty percent of the units are planned to be affordable at 80% of Area Median Income. Greatwater purchased the property for $3.4 million last year. Developers were approved for Neighborhood Enterprise Zone certificates worth $2.9 million in 2022 and plan to seek brownfield tax credits. The plant was built in 1905 and is in the New Amsterdam Historic District. In February 2023, Greatwater sought approval from the Historic District Commission for plans including demolishing parts of the property not considered historic.
