What's happening?

Built in 1911 as apartments, this property later became the Danish Brotherhood Hall in 1915. In December 2022, R. Philip Lockwood of XYZ Development and XYZ 20-01 DBH, LLC submitted plans for redevelopment of the site — including parcels 1775 and 1785 W. Forest Ave. — into a multi-use community event space with a parking lot to the City of Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. The $8.2 million project is set to include event space, a commercial kitchen and retail space.

Detroit City Council approved the project’s brownfield plan in February 2023, including $1.4 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF), with the plan’s total cost valued at $1.8 million. Construction is projected to begin in 2023, with an anticipated date of completion in fall/winter of 2024. The developer said that the construction phase will create 32 jobs and that the resulting business will generate 27 jobs.
