What's happening?

Dreamtroit, a nearly $20 million project, will have apartments, a market and restaurant when it is completed in 2022. Matt Naimi and Oren Goldenberg are developing the Northwest Goldberg site, which was originally an automaking facility and more recently served as the home for the Recycle Here! recycling center, artist studios and the nonprofit Green Living Science. Plans call for 81 live/work spaces designed with artists in mind -- some units will be set aside as affordable -- and a marketplace, coffee shop, offices and outdoor venue. The project has received loans and funding from several sources, including the Detroit Housing for the Future Fund, the Michigan Strategic Fund and historic tax credits.
