It closed in 1958, but was used by squatters, techno DJ, and others throughout the years. The decaying building was bought in 2013 by Spanish investor Fernando Palazuelo, It was purchased for $405,000 on December 12, 2013. Palazuelo would sell the building in 2020, but would fight the city of Detroit in October of 2021 when the city deemed the remaining buildings hazardous and ordered many of the lots torn down over Palazuelo's objections.
