What's happening?

A development group including Gretchen Valade, Christos Moisides and David Sutherland acquired the former Standard Accident Insurance Co. building from Wayne County in 2017. Originally planned as a fully residential development, plans for a boutique hotel from Los Angeles-based SBE were revealed in 2018, with 100 rooms and 70 housing units. In 2019, the opening date was set for June 2020. Construction halted for a period during the pandemic; a new completion date for the $75 million project has not been disclosed.
