What's happening?

Developer Michael Higgins is leading a $22 million mixed-use development at the corner of East Jefferson and Van Dyke. The project, which has been approved for more than $5 million in financing by the state, includes cleanup of gasoline contamination and rehab of several structures including the Prohibition-era speakeasy "White Building/Aniwa Club." A parking structure will also be demolished. Plans detailed in 2021 call for a new building and parking structure, three commercial units, 36 residential units and a renovated pedestrian plaza.
